Planning for the Fall of ICWA

While the Supreme Court may demolish the well-respected and effective Indian Child Welfare Act in its upcoming ruling in the case of Brackeen v. Haaland, some states are taking steps to insure that Indigenous families are protected. Both North Dakota and Montana have introduced bills to codify the ICWA into state law. Eleven states already have state versions of the ICWA in place.
